The Annie box
The Annie box is a one-of-a-kind piece made as a gift for a friend. From the outset, the idea was to create something personal, elegant and durable, with enough character to mark the occasion without becoming an excessive demonstration.
The choice of woods and the design of the box were considered with that balance in mind: understated in form, but strong in its contrasts.
A dialogue between two woods
The box combines bog oak and padauk.
The first brings dark depth and an almost mineral presence. The second introduces a brighter, warmer and immediately recognisable colour. Together they create a clear contrast that remains balanced enough to let the geometric design take centre stage.
This dialogue between the two species lies at the heart of the piece. It is not simply a matter of opposing a dark tone with a brighter one, but of building a composition in which each material reinforces the other.
A precise geometric design
The decoration is based on a deliberately clear and balanced geometric pattern.
Lines, angles and contrasts were developed to give the box a contemporary identity while preserving the natural character of the woods. The geometry structures the piece without weighing it down and allows both bog oak and padauk to remain fully visible.
The result sits between a practical object and a decorative one: a box intended to hold personal belongings, but conceived as a piece in its own right.
A piece conceived as a tribute
The Annie box was not designed for series production.
It belongs to those objects born from a particular occasion, for a particular person, whose meaning lies as much in the intention as in the object itself.
That is why it now belongs among the workshop’s Honourable Pieces: not as a model to reproduce, but as the record of a project, a choice of materials and a gesture made for someone.
