The Marie-Jo box
Born from a gesture of gratitude.
Conceived as a one-of-a-kind gift, it had to express something simple but difficult to put into words: gratitude, the gentleness of someone’s presence and the importance of a human bond.
The materials, proportions and details of the box were developed around that intention.
The lightness of ash, the refinement of pear wood and the depth of walnut create a balanced, understated and warm composition.
A balance between the woods
The body of the box is made from solid ash.
Its light colour brings brightness and gives the piece a soft, natural presence. The box stands on slender pear-wood feet, which visually lighten the composition and give it a more delicate silhouette.
Fine walnut strips underline the lines of the piece.
Their deeper tone supports the pale ash without dominating it. This discreet contrast structures the box and creates a balance between lightness and depth.
A compass rose as a point of reference
The lid carries a compass-rose marquetry design.
More than a decorative motif, it evokes direction, orientation and balance. It naturally draws the eye towards the centre of the box and gives the piece a symbolic dimension.
The geometry of the motif works with the clean lines of the box and the natural contrasts of the different woods.
A different world inside
When opened, the box reveals a mahogany-veneered interior.
The warm colour contrasts with the pale ash exterior and gives the inside a more intimate and enveloping atmosphere.
A laser-engraved walnut plaque completes the composition. Discreet, it acts as the signature of the piece and recalls the personal intention behind its creation.
A piece born from gratitude
The value of the Marie-Jo box does not lie solely in the materials used or the hours required to make it.
It was created to express gratitude.
Every wood, contrast and detail helped translate that intention through the material.
That is why it now belongs among the workshop’s Honourable Pieces: as the record of a unique object, but above all of the human relationship that gave rise to it.
